Biography

Lisa M. Samuel received her PhD in International Relations from Florida International University in 2009. Prior to this, she read for her Bachelor of Laws Degree in the Faculty of Law at the University of the West Indies, earning same in 1989, and completed Bar Exam qualifying examinations at the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica, WI in 1991. She then practiced law in both the private and public sectors for some ten years, during which time she earned a Master of Laws Degree in International Law from the University of Miami in 1999.

 Dr. Samuel’s teaching focus is in international law and international relations, including international relations of the Caribbean and the international protection of human rights. Her current research explores the question of justice in situations of difference in the context of the international trade regime, and the utilization of research methods which challenge disciplinary norms for knowledge production. She has published on the utilization of feminist-informed qualitative research in international relations to build theory and formulate policy, and on small developing states in the WTO, and she has prepared expert analyses for governmental use.
