Daehong Elijah Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea, and spent his childhood in Tokyo, Japan, then became a naturalized citizen of the United States. At Florida International University, he pursues comparative politics as the primary subfield and International Relations as the secondary subfield. His research interests include political incentive structures, the role of foreign policy in shaping “weaker” states’ domestic power dynamics, authoritarian politics and democratization, regime resilience and democratic backsliding, etc. One of his goals is to conduct cross-sectional comparative research on weaker states, ranging from East Asia to Africa to the Caribbean.
