Biography

Lana Shehadeh joined FIU’s International Relations PHD program in Fall of 2017. Before joining FIU, she completed her master’s degree at American University in Development Economics. Her concentration was on Development in the Middle East. She spent a significant amount of time working for the BBC in the Middle East and East Africa as a Senior Researcher doing work on democratization patterns, accountability and identity politics in the Middle East.

Ms. Shehadeh’s research combines her interest in regional studies, specifically North Africa and the Middle East, along with her interest in Development and International Political Economy within developing countries. Her research concentrates on International Political Economy within the Middle East and more specifically the use of identity politics as tool to maintain legitimacy during times of economic fluctuation.
