Sigma Iota Rho
Sigma Iota Rho (SIR) is an International Studies Honor Society that was originally founded in 1984 at American University in Washington, D.C., Sigma Iota Rho now boasts over 190 chapters across the U.S., the UK, France, and Iraq.
The Beta Rho Chapter, Sigma Iota Rho (SIR), was established at Florida International University (FIU) in 2002. This chapter is founded upon two guiding principles:
- To advance the service, scholarship, and occupational activities of students of international relations through the promotion of a deeper understanding of world affairs that encourages life-long learning and
- The creation of a close community of students, scholars, and practitioners who share a deep and abiding interest in international relations. Sigma Iota Rho is intended not only to enhance students credentials, though public recognition of the best and the brightest students in international relations but membership encourages a life-long devotion to a better understanding of the world we live in and to continuing support for and engagement in education, service, and occupational issues.
The Beta Rho chapter is focused on creating opportunities for networking, engagement, and support for international relations majors and minors at Florida International University. Throughout the semester we host social and educational events as well as occupational development workshops. The purpose of these events is to position our members for success in a globalized society and provide members with the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with peers, professors, and members of the community to enhance their understanding of international relations.
