Yang Gyu Kim is a Ph.D. candidate in the International Relations Program at FIU. He completed his BA and MA in International Relations at Seoul National University in Seoul, Korea, where his research centered upon the study of the power transitions and strategies of status quo powers. He worked as a research fellow at the East Asia Institute (EAI), an independent think-tank located in Seoul, from 2010 to 2014. As a research fellow at EAI, he wrote policy papers, commentaries, and interview reports on U.S.-China relations and the North Korean nuclear threat. In August of 2014, he received a Fulbright Scholarship and joined the Ph.D. program at FIU. His current research project focuses on the strategy of threat during international crises, especially cases involving rapid power shifts such as nuclear proliferation and conflicts over resource-rich territories.
