Curriculum Vitae

Research Interest

Kristin Hynes is a PhD candidate in International Relations. She received an MA in Asian Studies from FIU, an MA in International Relations from the University of Massachusetts Boston, and a BA in Asian Studies (with a minor in Japanese) from the University of Massachusetts Boston. She has also completed two graduate certificates at FIU (Japanese Studies/ Middle East and Muslim World Studies).

She primarily focuses on East Asia. While she has a wide range of interests in that region, her research has mostly focused on South Korean soft power and tensions between Japan and its surrounding neighbors as a result of Japanese imperialism. Her dissertation focuses on postcolonial theory and explores existing parallels between South Korean-Japanese relations with Irish-British relations.
